There are so many wonderful things to do right here in Lincoln and some that are hidden treasures. Matt McKay Mornings is on a mission to participate in 50 different must-do activities right here in the Capital City over 50 weeks!

Beginning on January 7th and continuing for 50 straight weeks, Matt and Lindsey will choose one activity to highlight each week. You can follow along by listening to Matt McKay Mornings each weekday from 6-10am and by checking for photos and videos of 50 in 50 on the KFRX

Dec 6: Enjoying Raising Canes before a Stars Game!

Husker season 2013 kicks off Saturday Aug. 31 with the Wyoming Cowboys coming to town, so Lindsey went to get a tour of Memorial Stadium including the new expansion/remodel of East Stadium! GO BIG RED!

Week 33: Tuition Mission!
KFRX Tuition Mission School Bus Survivor is a reality radio competition we do to award one lucky student FREE tuition and book to UNL! We had Season 8 this year from Aug. 20-24, meet our winner, Belieber, with the entire KFRX Krew!!

Week 31: Capital City Ribfest!
You GOTTA go eat ribs in Lincoln! The 16th annual Capital City Ribfest is Aug. 8-11, and Matt and Lindsey were there broadcasting live Thursday night! And eating pulled pork/french fry/ nachos of course ;)

Week 30: Canopy St. and the West Haymarket development!

Week 28: Cornhusker State Games
It's like the Olympics of Nebraska! A multi-sport event with over 12,000 participants in over 60 sports/events. This year's mystery torch lighter was NHL veteran Jed Ortmeyer!

Week 27: Brews and Blues at the Zoo!
This Lincoln Children's Zoo fundraiser could be a girls night OR a date night at the zoo, without the kids! Local craft brews and live blues music.

Week 26: Uncle Sam Jam 2013!
Celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks at Oak Lake Park!

Week 25: Rock with the Crocs at the Lincoln Children's Zoo!

Week 24: Jazz In June!
Each Tuesday in June you can go catch a FREE live jazz concert outside the Sheldon Art Museum downtown on UNL's City Campus. Only one Tuesday left! Catch Jackie Allen on June 25, details at

Week 23: The Veteran's Freedom Music Festival!
Honor our amazing vets and hear live music all day at this FREE event! June 15, 9am-9pm at the Lincoln VA Campus

Week 22: The First Bite Event at the Cornhusker Hotel!
June 6 to kick off Lincoln Restaurant Week! YUM!

Week 21: See a show at Pinewood Bowl Theater!
Even though the Lumineers concert had to be moved to Pershing for weather, it is such a cool and unique outdoor venue in Lincoln! Definitely keep it in mind for other events and next summer concert season! 

Week 20: Visit a local brewery!
Lindsey and her sister went to Zipline Brewery, and Blue Blood Brewing Co. is having a fundraiser for Make-a-Wish tonight! That's just 2 of many in Lincoln, so happy beer drinking! :)

Week 19: The Farmer's Market!
This weekend finally allows for beautiful weather and the CAN'T-MISS Haymarket Farmer's Market! Every Saturday May - mid-October from 8am-12pm!

Week 18: Shop The Blocks!
Twice a year the Downtown Lincoln Association put on an event where boutiques stay open late, there are discounts, drinks, appetizers, and TONS of prizes given away! Lindsey kicked off this event on May 9, broadcasting from the Single Barrel, also the location of the after-party later that night!

Week 17: Marathon Weekend!!
The weekend begins 5/4 Saturday morning at 8am at the State Capitol with our 1 mile fun run for kids, the 26th Annual KFRX Mayor's Run! Then the 36th Annual National Guard Marathon and Half Marathon is 7am Sunday morning 5/5! Good luck to all runners of all ages! Week 16: Feed the ducks at Pioneers Park!
This is one of Matt and his daughter's FAVORITE things to do. April 27th the Pioneers Park Nature Center is celebrating 50 years!

Week 15: Eat at a Lincoln/Nebraska original restuarant!
Whether it's Val's pizza, a steak from Misty's, or an original Runza from Runza, Lincoln and Nebraska have many great local restaurants! Lindsey's fiance's favorite Nebraska-based eatery is Runza, he worked there in high school!

Week 14: The Lincoln Children's Zoo!
Matt McKay and his family spend a lot of their summer at the zoo, so he and his family definitely wouldn't have missed opening day, April 13th!

Week 13: Spring Red & White Game!
Going to watch essentially a Husker football PRACTICE is a MUST-DO in Husker Nation. 2pm on Saturday April 6, and on TV on BTN. GO BIG RED! ...AND WHITE!

Week 12: Skate the Bay!
The Bay is Lincoln's only indoor skateboarding park, with an emphasis on youth outreach. Located at 2005 Y St, the Bay director Mike Smith already facilitates non-profit Skate for Change for community help, and an art center and coffee shop are planned for phase 2 of the Bay. Learn more at

Week 11: Go see live music in Lincoln!
The Zoo Bar is a legendary blues bar, we have right here in downtown Lincoln. The Zoo Bar is the longest running blues bar in America in it's original location, Matt's good friend Aaron Zimmer is playing there tonight! See all the Zoo's shows at

Week 10: Shrine Circus!
Once a year the Shrine Circus comes to town, you can see the clowns and acrobats and other magical tricks from 3/15-3/17 at Pershing. Get details HERE.

Week 9: Attend a Husker athletic event OTHER than football!

Week 8: 90s At Night!!!

Week 7: Stars hockey!

Have you ever taken a guided tour of the Capitol??? It's AWESOME! Jameson was our amazing guide who shared the history and theory behind every single floor, mural, room, and detail. SO beautiful, and they give free tours, so make it a must-do while in Lincoln, NE.  ;) Get more info at

Week 3: Get Rec'd 2013!  UNL's Rec Center hosts a 2-day festival for students to play games, eat food, and get FREE stuff from businesses in Lincon. KFRX was there giving out free stuff and Lindsey emcees the event! Get more details HERE.
