A Bar Had to Stop “Free Shots for Every Goal” When the U.S. Women’s World Cup Team Won 13-0

It’s never good when a marketing gimmick could wind up either bankrupting your company, sending people to the hospital . . . or both.
There’s a bar in Miami called American Social. And they have a promotion during the Women’s World Cup . . . every time the U.S. women’s soccer team scores a goal, everyone in the bar watching the game gets a free shot of booze.
Well . . . in the first game of the tournament on Tuesday, the U.S. beat Thailand 13-to-zero.
So at some point during the game, the bar realized it had to stop handing out free shots.
They say that no one in the bar seemed to care and, quote, “our ‘free shots’ promotion is not meant to be taken literally.” Whatever that means.
