Dad’s Arm Wrestling Loss To Son Leads To Police Standoff

Curtis Zimmerman, 55, was drunk when he challenged his young son to an arm-wrestling contest early Monday at a home in Florence, Kentucky. Zimmerman “became agitated” after losing to the boy several times, prompting a fight between them that turned physical. Zimmerman proceeded to grab a gun as his son was going upstairs and fired two shots inside the home. The dad, who told deputies he fired his gun into the ceiling, refused to comply with deputies’ commands when they responded to the home, resulting in an 8-hour standoff. “The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiation Team spoke with Zimmerman throughout the morning and ultimately negotiated his safe surrender,” officials said, adding that two of Zimmerman’s relatives earlier got out of the home unharmed. Authorities did not provide the age or name of the son. Zimmerman now faces charges of first-degree wanton endangerment.
