9 months ago, Bill Norrie left Canada on a solo sailing trip around the world. Norrie was last on dry land in Cape Town, South Africa, in early February for repairs, so he knew little about the pandemic when he arrived last week in Christchurch, New Zealand. His wife had sent him only occasional short messages. Christchurch Harbor had rules barring vessels from arriving, to guard against introducing infection. Bill thought that was funny, considering that he’d been self-isolating for months.
