Many Americans are feeling frustrated because of delays in receiving their coronavirus stimulus checks, but one man in Louisiana took that anger to some dangerous extremes. According to the Louisiana Office Of State Fire Marshal, the 51-year-old from Hamburg named Marvin Smith Jr. has been arrested after he set his mother’s backyard shed ablaze because he hadn’t received his check. Authorities say that witnesses saw Smith inside of the shed just seconds before smoke and flames were seen as he proceeded to flee the area in an RV. They add that Smith had gotten into an argument with his mother over the status of his stimulus money before the incident. It’s unclear if Smith simply hasn’t received his check yet, or if he wasn’t eligible for one at all. Smith was booked into the local jail on multiple charges, including some unrelated to this incident, after Avoyelles Parish deputies found him armed with a knife.
