Texas Man Works Alone for 32 Hours Straight in Hotel During Texas Flooding

(CNN) When Satchel Smith’s father dropped him off for his shift at Homewood Suites in Beaumont, Texas, he expected the day to be like any other: He’d start at 3 p.m. and leave around 11 p.m. that night.

That was until Tropical Storm-turned-Depression Imelda unleashed torrential flooding that trapped him and 90 other guests inside the hotel.

For 32 hours, beginning Wednesday afternoon, the 21-year-old was the hotel’s only employee. But to the guests who relied on him for nearly two days, he’s a hero.

The flooding has just been terrible down there for the past few years and they just got hit again last week which caused several people to be trapped in buildings along with the streets being unusable. That obviously would be an issue if you couldn’t get to work or home. Luckily if you have this guy employed for you, you wouldn’t have to worry about a thing.

This dude named Satchel Smith works at a hotel in Beaumont, Texas and he is a hero! He is 21, and last Wednesday when he went into to work his regular 3-11 P.M. shift at the Homewood Suites, he had no clue he would be the only one showing up for work that day. The streets we’re covered in water, no one could drive on them. None of his co-workers we’re there, and none of them could get to the hotel. He was the only one working, and he absolutely killed it.

32 HOURS. For 32 hours this man worked alone in a hotel with 90 guests inside! He always made sure they had coffee and tea. He was the maintenance man, fixing toilets and TV’s when needed. He of course worked the front desk and even cooked them food! He said he never cooks and that with the help of some other people, they cooked up some pasta and bread.

This guy is a hero. Not only is he young, but he is also a full time college student. He runs track at Lamar University and speaking as a full time student, I respect this guy as there isn’t a lot of people in our world today that would go above and beyond to help those people with all the other things to take care of in life. His name is Satchel Smith, REMEMBER HIS NAME!
