This Beer Has So Much Alcohol It’s Illegal In 15 States, But Not in Nebraska!
Samuel Adams is bringing back its Utopias beer, but not everyone will be able to find it. Due to the drink’s high level of alcohol, it’s actually illegal in 15 states. Utopias is described as a “barrel-aged extreme beer” and has a multi-year-long brewing process. The 2019 batch is a blend of Sam Adams’ earlier extreme beers, which have reportedly been aged in wooden bourbon casks. Sam Adams’ only brewed 77 wooden casks of Utopias, which has “distinct vanilla notes and subtle nutty and elegant dark fruit aromas.”
The beer also claims to have an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 28%, significantly higher than the average beer (usually lower than 10%). Due to its high level of alcohol, this already hard-to-find beer is illegal in 15 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia.
